The Problem
Delivering high performance equipment solutions that drive a low carbon world
Our customers are industry leaders that want to make a difference and have a mandate to transform the way they work by reducing their reliance on higher carbon fuels. Together, we recognize this can be achieved through the intelligent electrification of conventional equipment technology.
However, broad-scale applications where the equipment is working multiple shifts per day, must be fully mobilized on the job site, or have a high duty cycle means that being grid tied, grid restricted, or battery-only operated just doesn’t work and isn’t practical. Hydrogen has the power needed to meet our customers duty cycle requirements while also sustainably cleaning up the planet.

Batteries are not enough
As a stand-alone solution, batteries do not meet the performance needs of industrial applications. Battery energy availability changes with environmental conditions and degredation, and charging times cannot meet duty cycle requirements.

The electricity grids of today require unprecedented investment to support current energy demand, let alone electrification on an industrial scale. Alongside added pressure to reduce battery charge times.

The Challenge
Film is an industry with substantial environmental impact due to high energy requirements, intense duty cycle needs, and proximity to populated areas. The demand for zero-emission power generation in this sector prompted the exploration of alternative solutions.
The Solution

The Challenge
Rubber-tired gantry cranes have a unique set of operating requirements that makes hydrogen fuel cells the viable pathway for achieving zero emissions, in a way that is not achievable by diesel-electric hybrid solutions. In many cases, RTG’s operators are restricted from tying into the power grid due to extremely high load demand.
The Solution
Hydrogen is refueled quickly, allowing no compromise on their all-day operating hours, and fuel cells can operate efficiently and reliably under different weather conditions and power requirements.
With RTGs accounting for as much as 50% of shore-segment carbon emissions, DP World views the development of a carbon-neutral solution for this segment of its operations as a critical component to achieving its overall decarbonization strategy.
